A Fuego Project

We work to protect forests before the fire arrives. We combine technology, forestry intervention and volunteering to reduce the risk of wildfires in Spain’s most vulnerable areas.

Fight fire with prevention

Every summer, the fire spreads

An initiative to protect, care for and strengthen forests, one of the most valuable ecosystems on our planet. Because when we prevent wildfires, we also protect biodiversity, water resources, soils and the communities that depend on them. That’s why it’s time to act before the flames appear. It’s time to stay one step ahead of fire. Project Fire aims to reduce the risk of wildfires in the three regions of Spain most affected by forest fires: Castile and León, Andalusia and Galicia. How? By combining technology, forest management actions and volunteer engagement to identify vulnerable areas, improve forest stewardship, and strengthen forests’ capacity for prevention and resilience against fire.

Prevention, a key ally

Most wildfires can be prevented through proper forest management. It's not just about extinguishing fires, but about preventing them from becoming an emergency.

Regular biomass clearance reduces fire intensity by more than 70%

Protection rings, our methodology

The core of the A Fuego Project is the creation of protection rings around municipalities and infrastructure. These are safety zones where fire loses intensity, drops to the ground and can be brought under control.

1

Self-protection
The area closest to homes. It is cleared so that the fire has no fuel when it arrives.

2

Immediate defence
An intermediate perimeter where flammable vegetation is reduced to slow the spread.

3

Buffer zone
The outer layer. It uses natural barriers such as vineyards and olive groves, which are more resistant to heat.

How do we do it? From data to the field

1. We identify

with Agro4DatA

We use artificial intelligence and predictive models to detect the highest-risk areas and prioritise where action is needed.

2. We intervene

with Grupo Eulen

Specialised teams carry out forest clearing and silvicultural management using machinery to reduce fuel load.

3. We activate

with Acción Social

We organise open volunteering days to help remove forest debris on the ground.

4. We measure

Each intervention generates real data: biomass removed, area protected, trees replanted and volunteers involved.

Protection Days

Vegetation waste removal activities will be carried out with the support of volunteers in three locations across Spain that are particularly vulnerable to wildfires, contributing to forest protection and fire prevention.
