Challenge 4: Energy

Contexto

According to the latest data provided by the National Institute of Statistics (INE), barely a third of the energy consumed in Spain is produced locally. This figure places Spain as one of the most energy-dependent countries in the European Union, as the EU's average energy dependence is 53%. Energy savings are essential to reduce the energy consumption of our companies, both at the domestic, business, and transport levels. We face a banking and industrial challenge to completely transform the way we produce and consume energy. Reducing energy poverty by making electricity more accessible to all households. According to the ACA (Association of Environmental Sciences), 4.6 million people in Spain cannot reach an adequate temperature in their homes during the cold months. Being pioneers in solar energy production in Spain is a near reality since we have spectacular levels of solar irradiation; we are the land of the sun. With the elimination of the solar tax, the value of renewable energy in Spain is seeing the light again!

INNOVATION: It proposes to transform garbage into biofuel for vehicles.

WEBSITE: life-methamorphosis.eu

The LIFE Methamorphosis project is co-financed by the European Commission under the LIFE programme, which aims to promote innovative technologies in the field of environment and climate change to drive changes in the development and implementation of policies by providing solutions and improvements.

It is a technology demonstration project that pursues the same objectives as the LIFE programme, especially the mitigation of climate change through increased use of renewable energy and, in particular, the production of biomethane from waste treatment plants, which promotes the reduction of greenhouse gases compared to other fuels. It represents a revolution in urban mobility and the development of the cities of the future. This initiative is also in accordance with the guidelines on the circular economy promoted by the European Community.

The project proposes to demonstrate two innovative waste treatment systems on an industrial scale.
